Booze & Snacks

This project envisions the creation of a refined yet approachable cigar lounge and microtobacconist that feels at once timeless and distinctly St. Louis. Located in the heart of the Central West End, the space will blend the heritage of traditional cigar culture with a modern neighborhood sensibility. Interiors will prioritize warmth, comfort, and sophistication, with layered textures, rich finishes, and ambient lighting that invite patrons to linger.

The design will balance old-world craftsmanship with contemporary ease — masculine without being heavy, elegant without being exclusive. Key considerations include a layout that accommodates both intimate conversations and lively community gatherings, a humidor experience that elevates the act of selection, and branding that communicates credibility, taste, and a sense of discovery.

Ultimately, the lounge will be more than a place to smoke; it will serve as a neighborhood hub where culture, camaraderie, and craftsmanship converge.

the lounge

Designing and executing a cigar lounge in the Central West End came with its share of nuanced challenges. Chief among them was developing a smoke filtration system that could handle the needs of a serious cigar program without overwhelming the intimacy of the space. Balancing air quality with atmosphere required coordination between mechanical engineers and design intent, ultimately leading to a discreet, multi-layered system that feels invisible to guests yet performs at a commercial grade.

for the record.

All records and cassettes (yes, cassettes!) are for sale, or can be selected and shared with the DJ to incorporate into the night’s audio set. A semi-private whiskey tasting room or “booth” is enclosed in glass and sits independently in the record shop entry. Sitting within it feels reminiscent of being in a performer’s or engineer’s booth.
